	QUALITY CHILD CARE INITIATIVE The Quality Child Care Initiative which is offered through the Family Resource and Referral Center is a local initiative that has established a resource and referral program to support child care providers by providing information, materials, equipment available on loan, referral services both for providers and parents, to include consumer education and assistance for parents in the process of selecting an appropriate provider, and monthly training opportunities which meet licensing requirements. The goal of this initiative is to identify needs and gaps both in availability and quality of local child care, to improve availability as needed, and to enhance the quality of care delivered to children through training, resource/referral, and community education and awareness. MISSION The Quality Child Care initiative serves families and Child Care providers in the cities of Staunton and Waynesboro and the counties of Augusta and Highland. The primary goal at the program is to improve the quality of the child care available in these areas. SERVICES The QCCI offers parents a free child care Referral Service. They will also receive information concerning how to select the best provider for their child. We offer subsidized training to Child Care Providers. There is a nominal $10 fee per class per trainee. These training sessions meet State licensing requirements. We also supply information to parents enabling them to make good decisions about their child care. We offer Referral Services for providers including how to find program liability insurance, how to become licensed or voluntarily registered and how to locate alternate funding sources to start a program. We also offer an extensive lending library that consists of videos, soft ware, support items and a large variety of toys activity kits. 	POLICY STATEMENT This agency does not screen or inspect homes or centers or in any way act as a regulatory agency. Since parental choice is a very important component of child care arrangements - we make referrals, not recommendations. It is the responsibility of the parent seeking care to verify that a provider's information is accurate and evaluate the quality of childcare being offered. Counseling, information and resources are available to assist parents in choosing the situation that best fits their child's needs. Referred providers are certified, licensed, and registered.
