PARENT'S RESPONSIBILITES

PARENTS HAVE RESPONSIBILITIES, TOO!
MAKE DAY CARE ARRANGEMENTS GO SMOOTHLY FOR ALL INVOLVED

A lot of attention is given to the caregiver's responsibilities. But parents have responsibilities in the day care arrangement, too.
For instance:

• Provide your caregiver with all the necessary paperwork prior to bringing your child for the first time.

• Be on time in the morning and night. Call if you're going to be late.

• Check with your provider in advance to determine what arrangements need to be made for the care of a sick child.

• Provide emergency numbers---your work, spouse's work, doctor, relative.

• If you will be at a different location one day let the caregiver know where to reach you.

• Pay on time and in full.

• Let the caregiver know who can or cannot pick up your child.

• Provide instructions about medications, special foods, physical limitations.

• Tell her about situations at home that might make your child temporarily upset or off-schedule.

• Regularly bring items you are supposed to provide.

• Monitor the situation regularly and keep communications open. Talk about problems and concerns when they first appear. Remember to choose a convenient time for both of you to talk.

• If you have serious concerns about safety or quality of your child's care contact your Regional Department of Social Services immediately.

• Take an interest in what happens in the home or center.

• Respect your caregiver and the important job she's doing. Tell and show her often how much you appreciate her.

• Inform your child care provider of resources that may benefit your child and be available in your community such as, the USDA Child Care Food Program, resource lending libraries, information and referral programs, and training workshops offered by community agencies, hospitals, social services, local schools, community colleges and universities, etc.
